I want to be

We have a tune we’ve been looping in the car since the girls’ VBS two weeks ago. The song rings so true to me right now.  Here are its simple words:

I like to think about the goodness of the Lord.

He give me everything I need and so much more.

I just want to lift my hands and say that I love him.

I just want to lift my voice in praise.

I want to be thankful.

I want to be grateful.

I want to remember everything that the Lord has done.

I want to be thankful.

I want to be grateful.

I want to be! I want to be! I want to be!

Last week we took our first vacation in two years. The year before last, we put vacations on hold as we waited for travel dates to Russia. (Trust me, traveling three times to a Siberian orphanage in the middle of a crack park is no holiday.) Then I haven’t been allowed to travel in the past year.

We didn’t go far, just to Santa Barbara. But what a great break! It was so wonderful to play as a family. We splashed in the pool, pigged out on room service, skipped the waves and even knocked our way through the hotel’s croquet course. (How many times do you have to explain the mallet isn’t a hammer? It’s not just little boys who like to bang things.)

This week, it’s back to the real world and back to Stanford. My monthly nail-biter of a blood test is Wednesday.

Please pray for us as we continue to struggle with living in the moment. We’re constantly balancing our joy in today and the hope of my progress with the uncertainty of tomorrow.

  1. What fun photos of the girls! I’m glad you had a chance to get away to relax and have some fun. I will pray for Wednesday.

  2. What great photos – the individual shots of the girls jumping into the pool perfectly capture their personalities. What a beautiful bouquet of life you have in them.

Continuing to pray for your recovery and for strength to stay in the day and in the glory of being alive. I’m so glad you are so FULLY alive.

    I love you!

  3. Just letting you know that I am thinking of you today and praying as well. The girls look like they are having so much fun – we should all be more like children in all that we do. I think words to live by are “jump in with gusto!”. Jump in to the pool or life with gusto. Wow.
